Skunk 2 cams on stock valves....
If you are running stage 2 cams, i know you need to upgrade the valvesprings and retainers, but for valves, should i keep the stock ones or do i need to get better valves.......the plan is to use nitrous as well....

stock valves retainers are fine? i thought the most important things were the retainers and springs, but not necessarily the valves to be upgraded...i will also be running nitrous... i will eventually get over sized type S pistons (11:1) and eagle rods.... any more input from anyone else?

if in fact you are running a JDM h22, then you don't have the strongest valves in the world. Turbo guys, even though this is not your application, have a tough time with H22's because the valves tend to break underpressure. If you are going to run stage 2 cams, with nitrous, then you might as well do the full upgrade, dual valve springs, and ferrous valves.

I have heard that the valvetrain is the weakest part of a prelude motor, but i never have heard about turbo applications breaking valves, only floating them....which goes back to the valve springs....it probably would be a good idea to just do the valves while the head is open tho

hell, if you got the head out, and some extra money (I think you can get valves for a set at about 200, and valve springs 250,) then go ahead and rock it

When upgrading springs, you should always change the retainers also. Aftermarket springs are obviously stronger, and when used with bigger cams (higher lift, longer duration), weeker retainers are liable to actually let go. I have seen stock retainers, and even a set of crowers with the middle still hanging on to the valve stem, while the outer part of the retainer was gone.
