i have a 1994 130,000 mile gsr stock motor and i was offered to trade for a 94 ls enigne with eagle rods and je pistons... 2200 miles sinse the rebuild.. this is just swapping motors... does this sound like a good trade... whats your 2 cents?

 

Hmmm, usually it is an LS guy wanting a GSR motor. Altho I don't know the specifics of an LS engine with new rods and pistons. Honda motors usually can last a good while. I have 2 friends with GSR's both with over 100,000 miles and they are running just fine. I would probably keep the B18C1 personally. But, whatever you want to do.

Is the LS motor sleeved? If it is it sounds like a lot of downtime and work would be done for you. A built LS motor and a stock GSR motor have about the same value. With all the miles on your motor it sounds like a good idea. Just rods and pistons wont hold too much boost though, get it sleeved if it isnt.

 

tuned GSR turbo better than a tuned ls turbo. gsr is higher compression, so what you cant run the same amount of boost with the gsr, you'll still be making the same, if not more power than with the ls boosted at a little bit higher level (this is if the ls is stock of course). plus the higher compression decreases turbo lag, which is always a plus.

 

Yes while a higher compression tuned GSR turbo charged engine would be nice, its going to be very limited on the power it can make. Itll max out at about 10psi which is very dangerous on a stock block. At 10psi on stock compression itll be real close to pinging and any more boost will cause the timing to be backed off so much that its negates any power to be had. If the LS motor is built itll be able to take much more boost and should blow away the GSR motor after 10psi.
