All weather tires in VA?
I've never lived in the snow before (Hampton) and I am in need of new tires, do I need all weather tires or could I get kumho supra ecsta 712, or Falken Azenis, or Toyo Proxes? I know it doesn't snow much down here but I don't want to be ice skating in my car.
I wouldn't put Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's on my car if you paid me to.
As for the original question - how much do you drive? You'll probably only have to worry about 'snow tires' 5-7 days out of the year, and that's being generous..

Neither of those three would be worth a shit in the snow. I would go with a BFG Traction TA(decent snow tire) or a goodyear assurance.
Get a set for the snow time and a set for normal weather.

hahaha all you southern folks kill me! SlowGTP and me will tell you what snow is! Snow isn't shit down here! Its kinda funny though, 3" of snow will shut down the city. In answer to your question though, just any new tire is all you need for snow. Take it from a northerner. Snow tires/winter tires etc etc are a gimmick, thats all. If you want some kind of reassurance for slippery conditions, just run a new "treaded" (not DR) tire toward the end of fall. However you might want to use a shitty wheel due to the salt on the roads.

Since it doesn't snow very often, having a set of winter tires mounted on crap wheels for use in those situations would be the best solution. That way the rest of the year you don't have to suffer with all-seasons.
Damn same thing when I ask around, half of them say it doesn't matter it doesn't snow here enough. The other half tell me you need all weathers, I really don't want to deal with changing tires every winter/summer. I'll probably end up getting some performance tires.
I'm from california where snow is something you drive up to or put up your nose.

FWD is great in the snow anyways.
i've personally had too many close encounters in my FWD cars to even think about running sport/dr's during winter. thats just asking for trouble. when i was 16 on the way to school i was driving through an intersection going left, and oh, fun, my car decided to keep going straight. about $2k in suspension/kframe/chasis damage
next up in my other prelude on 17s. i remember changing lanes a few times, extremely slowly, and the car decded to keep going and almost slide into the curb.
i guess you just have to know how to drive in snow.. im from FL. but youd be dumb to ride on azenis, etc, in it.
