I got a 88 hatch and it keeps flashing code 7. I looked this code up on the internet it said throttle positioning sensor. My buddy insisted he could fix it, he wiggled this sensor, unplugged and plugged it back in and he couldn't get the check engine light to come on. This sensor looks like its rivitted to the fuel injection piece on top the engine and he thinks we should put a whole new top piece on my car. When the engine light is on, my car hesitates when I press the gas after I change gears.

Does anyone know anything about this?
Is it the sensor or a relay or what?

Any info. on this would be appreciated

I have a 01 explorer sports trac and had the same thing go wrong. Plus when i was in drive with foot on the brake like at a light it would rev up or drop to like 500rpm or lower and almost die. Well taking it to to the dealership, it was still under warrenty. The sensor was bad , they thought they fixed it by doing something to it. Well a few days later it did everything all over again. I almost hit someone at a light casue it rev'ed up. Well the sensor going bad ended up casueing the rest of the electrical parts to go bad, so i had to have the sensor , sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributer and cap replaced, luckaly it was under warrenty or would have been like 500$ So if this is your problem take it in and get the sensor replaced.

I hear that the TPS can be crossed with another jack of similar size/shape near it...make sure you got the right wires going to the right place...but I'd bet good money you just havea faulty sensor...it should be a cinch to replace...buy a Haines manual and find a junkyard. Have a nice day.

if u have a motor swap, the wires can be in the tps plug backwards.

 

It is NOT riveted. For some reason goofy usdm honda guys thought it would be a good idea to lop off the heads of the TORX SCREWS that hold that sensor down. Just get a dremel tool, notch the heads, and then unscrew with a flat head screw driver.

All 4 cylinder honda tps sensors are the same so just find another one to replace it with. More then likely junk yards will not have just the tps sensor and will sell you the entire throttle body. No biggy, just do what i said above and you should be good to go. Hopefully someone on this board has a tb laying around with a tps still attached and can donate it to ya.

Just keep in mind that when you do replace the tps sensor you're going to have to set it at the correct voltage.
