Should be a bike newbie soon....
Well things are looking up and I might purchase a new bike here in the next couple weeks. This will be my first bike and I've been looking at the 05 R6 mostly. I've always been a fan of gixxers but I've been told the new R6 is pretty nice. I also like the new 600RR but people are telling me it's underpowered comapred to the other two. Any thoughts on any of these 05's? Thanx.
hookedup is right...i learned on a katana 600 and that seemed to be fine. the r6s are A LOT faster and lighter than the katanas, so you may have a hard time learning, not to mention you might kill yourself. also like he said, at some point during your first year, you are almost guaranteed to drop the bike, even if its only a driveway drop. you will forgive yourself a lot faster if you scratch a $3000 bike rather than a $9000-$11000 bike. theres nothing wrong with starting modest before you go big and nice. you will be thankful in the end
thanks for the input. I'm aware of all these things and considering it, but IF i were to get a new bike what are the thoughts on the above. Considering it'd be my first bike and all.
get something 99 or later. Notting new ! Also most new riders get into a accident in there first year. Take the class and go from there. Also I think I talk to you before at one of the Nissan meets last year. I was the one with the white 240sx with the east bears. Me I like the new R6 and the 636RR. Dont like the look of the new GSXRS.

I say get a used bike
and if you are set on the style and features of the 05 R6 than get a slightly used 03 or 04. you will save money on a used bike as well as cost of insuring it too.

Like others have said, an 05 R6 is to fast. Buy used, and buy slower. That bike can do 10 flat in the quarter mile, that kind of power is insane. Look for a ninja ex500 or something like that, maybe a suzukie sv650s.
It doesn't really matter...you prob will not live long enough to really tell any difference.
I'd follow everyone's advice and get a "starter bike" or at least a "starter firendly" bike.
You know they do make them for a reason

as long as u dont go out and act like an idiot with the speed under you, you should be alright with the r6, i've talked to many people who have bought them as their first bikes, and much like the feedback you are getting. they were told it was too much power or too new, just keep a level head on your shoulders if you get a new one. and i'd vote for the r6 over the gixxer too
i wouldn't feel comfortable on a brand new bike if i've never had one before. if you get something a little older then you won't mind doggin it and possibly droppin it.
