Default Tranny/Engine Chatter

Car:
97 grand prix GTP
90k miles
Stock
Auto

Lately ive been hearing this "chattering" noise at idle. It only occurs at idle, as soon as I give it the slightest amount of gas, it goes away. Also, it only chatters (at idle) in drive and reverse, as soon as I put it in park or neutral, it goes away. The car drives, shifts perfectly. Any ideas?

Might not be your tranny at all. Might actually be the bearings in your SC snout making all that noise (sounds like a baby rattle on steroids). They spin around like they're supposed to when you give it a little boost, which is why you are only hearing the noise at idle. Mine went around 95K. Take the coupler off and see if you don't have the bearings laying around loose inside. If that's the case, you can probably get a snout from the salvage yard cheap. Or let me know.

Actually, you're exactly right, I figured it out a few days ago. Ive ordered a new coupler, it should be here sometime this week. Thanks for the reply though
