Default civic wont start

yeah i got in my civic tonight and when i turned the key it would try to start a little and then slow stop and make a humming noise. it happened to me a couple of weeks back so i assumed it was a weak battery and had it replaced, either i got a deffective battery or there are other issues such as atlernator, belt, blown fuse, maybe my starter isnt turning over. if i missed a possiblility please let me know. i had the same problem with my 240 a couple of years back and it was a bad fuse. but i checked mine not that long ago and they looked fine. thanks in advance

Hey man, check the ground cables and make sure they're not loose or corroded. The humming noise is probably the fuel pump running.

ya especially if u have an upgraded fuel pump...i have a walbro pump in my turbo d-series hatch and when u turn the key u can hear the pump humming....it could be the distributor....i had a problem which seemed like a alternator problem but it turned out that autosolution(may that shop burn in hell) put the wrong damn one on my car....id check ur timing and get a voltmeter and test the charge coming off ur alternator...if its below 12 then u might wanna think about getting a new one

sounds like the battery.......and the hummming noise would be the lil power it has going into the started and trying to turn it......check the water and voltage of the battery....get it tested at advance or something , its free

actually, the humming is probably the fuel pump. if its not your battery, check your starter.

no, the "humming" he is referring to is more then likely a weak battery causing the solenoid to click. at least that is what i gathered from reading

what kind of battery? there are quite a few junk brands. do a load test on your charging system, that will tell you if the alt. is working or not.

loose grounds will cause issues also, but since you said it was fine for a week or so, i am willing to put money on it there is either a bad battery or a charging issue.

didnt get to check the car, just got off work. I have all the spare parts needed. i just swapped the bottom end in my car and made sure it was all top dead center before throwing it together so hopefully my timing is straight. i made a mistake and rushed and bought a battery from advance which i dont have to explain about advance. im hoping its something easy like an alternator since i have a couple of spares and i have a spare starter so ill find out tommorow "really wish i had a voltmeter, good investment" but im going to check my spark plugs and battery tommorow also. and ill let you know what works and doesnt work lol. thanks a lot for you output. and the timing on this was terrible since im now piecing together my ic piping and was hoping to have my turbo setup done this month but also 4 of the exhaust manifold bolts decided to strip on me, 2 easy ones on the top and 2 pain in the ass ones on the bottom. should i go a step down from a 12 to a 11mm and try to remove them that way or what? i usually just grind off stripped bolts but thats not the option with this so if someone has experience with stripped exhaust mani bolts please let me know lol. thanks
