Some tuning garages in Japan, UK, and Australia, have managed to upgrade the engine to power levels past 1000 hp. Veilside, in Japan, has modified an R34 Skyline GTR to 1600 hp. They have also modified an R32 Skyline GTR to accelerate to 300 km/h in 13 seconds."
You keep talking about stuff happening in other countries as if it is simple or possible here in the United States. Ok, great, someone in Japan made a 1000HP on a Skyline block. The point is, it was called an affordable alternative, which clearly it is not. In order to take a Skyline in to the 1000hp range in the US you will spend well north of $100,000.
The other point that is so commonly taken regarding skylines is "rarety" which is completely false, they are not rare, and by the way I have read wikipedia on Skylines, I have actually read quite a bit about them. They are not rare at all, they are just rare in markets they were not released in. I have said it before, there are lots of car enthusiasts with lots and lots of money. They can afford to bring whatever they want here, the reason they don't bring in Skylines is because they don't care.

This is such a dumb statement, I am not even really sure why I am responding to it. The obvious difference is that a SBC motor is a viable alternative. It is something you can order from pep boys.
