Lol. No it isn't smart guy.

In South Carolina I can drive around open downpipe in a residential area whenever I wanted to. No exhaust laws in SC.

Is that recent??! Cause I've asked cops tons of times when I used to live down there. They said there's no real law. But that still doesn't say you can't have aftermarket exhaust though.

aftermarket exhausts are where the excessive or unusual noise component comes into play, that way it is still up to the discretion of the officer...

Key word discretion of the Officer. I.E. Judge finds you guilty. I've lived in 7 states and gotten tickets in 4 of them for exhaust. Va is still the only state I've ever paid any fines on that charge.

Common Wealth means a lot more than you think. Many states follow us...maybe even try to be like us. But none of them can toss tickets at you like Nova can. Va is 1 of the highest % of chance to get a ticket by just simply passing through state there is.

One of the polls taken when they did sensus was.... we almost charge more out of states drivers than instate tickets a few years ago.

Test for you...

Drive exactly 30 days in Fairfax and count the tickets.

Then come to PWC and repeat the process.

My personal expirence is now after being out of FF the number of issued tickets has dropped in half. Matter of fact I've not had a ticket in 2 years now. I have a 3" custom built exhaust and I love to back fire when I shift (runnin a tad bite rich) and I've never been pulled over in PWC for exhaust.

Result may varie depending on person. But the facts speak for themselves. FF loves tickets. More than tickets they love to crack down on Modded cars.

Flame me all you want. these are just my humble thoughts

You do realize that the whole Greddy "50 state legal" paperwork is for emissions only, correct? it has nothing to do with the VA state exhaust law. Had the cop called your bluff you would have still been stuck with the ticket fine + court costs.

While I was in cali if you had this paper work on you the police would not write the ticket. Also the it must have the dot stamp securly attached to it. The cop would then proceed to not write the ticket. However, missing 1 of those and wammy.

If I understand this paper work it suppose to be mean it complies with DOT standards supposly making it legal for street use. If I also understand this since greddy is based in Cali (not sure on this fact [for us only]) it provided cali residents with a legal way of using after market exhaust and still be legal due to smog restrictions.
