Default engine break in

I bought a "new" engine for my mustang. It's not new from Ford, but it's refurbished from a company, so it was in a lot better condition than my old one. I was just wondering how many miles is considered breaking it in and how easy i need to be on it. Thanks.

Was it rebuilt or just taken from the old car and put into yours? If rebuilt, follow NFCStangs lead and don't rev past 4K until the 1000 miles is up.

If just dropped right in, change oil and have fun.

Is it a V6 or V8? Your profile says V6, please tell me you didn't spend money putting another V6 in it.

It's a rebuilt. Unfortunatly, it's a V6. I didn't have the money to convert it to a V8 and didn't really want to deal with the pains from shit not working right. But I have a better job now, and I'll sell it and get a V8. You have a cobra, is the cobra insurance much higher than a GT?

With my driving record, you can't use me as a comparison. Overall, yes it will be more if both the Cobra and GT are the same year. How much more, couldn't tell you. Its been a while since I had my last GT so I couldn't really tell you. I pay about $2K a year for full coverage now.

Why, is your driving record bad?
This has nothing to do with the subject, but your plates are MAD DOHC aren't they?

Yes, and yes those are my plates. I had -36 points a few years back. I'm +5 now and only have one ticket in the last three years.

You ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different answers. The rings are going to either seat or not seat within the first 15 - 30 seconds the car runs. I don't personally believe an engine break-in is necessary, however, with a new hydraulic roller cam I would spend a good 20 minutes breaking that in. Then again, many people have commented how their newer Mustangs have felt like someone has flipped a switch to a more aggressive tune after 1500 miles, so maybe Ford is on to something...?
