Yeah. That was a really shitty and unsportsman like thing to do. He's a cocky little fuck. Maybe he has some right, being current world champion, but still, that was totally uncalled for. He was outdriven by Schumi all day long.
i don't really care for him, but that gesture didn't bother me one bit, alonso said it was more of a "fist pump" or whatever because he couldn't believe his luck, schumi couldn't have seen that anyways if it was a wave
I want to say Senna, but his career was cut short while he was still in his prime.
And Sir Jack Brabham is at the top of my list, too.
I had a feeling Senna's name would be one of your choices. The problem I have with Senna's record is that it was a time in F1 where technology was moving faster than F1 regulations and tech inspections. Senna was often driving a car that had a distinct advantage over the other cars. Senna's car was often the test bed for new technologies that were shortly there after banned or became common place. I do think Senna would be in my top 5 drivers however. I will not take away from him that he was a world class driver with many many more wins in front of him. The fact is however, that his career was cut short. I cannot place him as a better driver than Schumi based on hypotheticals.
Sir Jack Brabham is one of the biggest names in F1 because he was a jack-of-all-trades and a master at most of them too. His biggest accomplishment to me was that he designed, built and successfully raced his own car. That's an accomplishment in and of itself. However, that doesn't make him the best driver in F1 history. F1 was a different beast back then.
And that's why it'll always be hard to pick the best driver of all time.
I agree. The same can be said for any sport. All sports evolve with technology; both in the equipment and the human. Athletes are not average men anymore.
