LS1 Guru's....
bs3, accel gen 7, fast xfi, aem have offerings.. the stock computer can go a long way with nitrous but not so much on FI, the aftermarket stuff will all run you a few grand optioned out.
a long block for say 1khp will set you around 10k, mine happens to be w2w, they have the best turnaround time in the business and have most of the records too, but there are lots of competent builders out there. (ls1tech.com)
forgot to add, if you are looking for say 1500-2khp the list goes down to w2w and only one or two others i can't think of... and the price goes maybe triple for real fancy parts, and custom machining.
world products actually makes a billet aluminum block, all cnc.

I like the lsx family of engines a whole lot. they are great engines, in fact they are probably my favorite engine being put into any current production car. However no new ground has been broken with the lsx. There is nothing you can do with a lsx that you can't do with a ford engine or other chevy engines. They come from the factory with an aluminum 4 bolt block, high compression, and decent flowing heads that can be made alot better with porting. All really great stuff but nothing that is new and groundbreaking.
For what it's worth there have been 3 factory ford modular mustang engines that have made more power than any version of the ls1 that ever graced a camarobird from the factory.
There have also been faster passes made with ford windsor and modular engines than the fastest pass in an lsx. There are also other small block chevys that run faster than the fastes lsx.
They are a great production street car engine and great for swaps into nearly anything but if you are intending on building a race engine for a race car there are better ways to go on both the ford and chevy side of things.
An aftermarket block ford windsor with bluethunder 4.3s or bennett racing canted valve heads or a dart block chevy with little chiefs will send any lsx engine that has ever existed running to it's mommy.
Maybe I should clairfy my position on the mighty lsx.

(had to throw that one in)
carry on
03-04 cobra 390 horse 4.6l supercharged
00 cobra R 385 horse 5.4l 4 valve naturally aspirated
07 gt500 500 horse 5.4l supercharged
The most powerful camarobird gm every sold at the dealerships was what 330 horse SLP version. maybe they had a 345 horse version special edition firebird if I remember.

Theres also the billet Dart LS1 block that came out recently. I haven't seen many people running it yet but it should hold up to even more than the factory alum LSx blocks that are making 1000+ hp.
Ok, but why not include the 405hp ls6, the 505hp ls7, the 400hp ls2, and the soon to be 650hp ls9 in the lsx series of engines since you are making comparisons?
