Then there is no reason why you aren't buying. You realize how much you are wasting right?

yes. but im not sure if im going to be here much longer or not, im thinking of going into computer game design, and well.. there are no real companys in this area... closest is NC with Ubisoft (FarCry people)... so yea. if i end up jus doing some random computer job im getting a house this summer, if i with my gaming idea im moving in a year and 1/2....

I know my rent is the same as a monthy house payment on a 260K house but with all the ins and upkeep to the house/yard im better off jus in an apt for now until i deside on where i wanna go with my career.

I'd rather not get into this argument, but along with the guy above me... What about those who really don't plan on sticking around va beach for much longer?

I mean, I'd have to get atleast two roommates to afford a 3 bedroom place around here. My mom had to go all the way to suffolk to get a 2 bedroom condo for 220k. Hell, in the area I'm in now a 3 bedroom 4200 sq. ft. condo just went for 4 million and 700 sq. ft 1 bedroom goes for over 300k.

I plan on getting this hell out of this area as soon as my lease if up... but I'll still be renting as I have no clue where I want to settle down and doubt I'll be staying anywhere I live for over a year. I'm to young to get stuck in a place long enough to justify buying something.

Again, no matter what, you are wasting money. Why would you do that?

...cause i am picky, i dont wanna live in a bad area, houses in the areas i like are 260-300k and ti buy that knowing i may have to sell it in a year is just not on my 'todo list' i have a roomie who is in the navy we're thinking of moving outta va not sure yet tho still thinking on it. IF i desided to stay in 757 i will get a house this summer... also if i buy something it's gotta be nice, with alot of space, and a pool..with good parking.

parking at most of teh houses out here is soo bad, why am i going to PAY for a house when i have to park on the damn road!? bs.. i like my huge parking lot at the apts. never have a problem gettin a space.

Of course I don't live over on that side so my opinion is biased to the Penninsula. I just can't get past wasting money.

I plan on living no where more then a year. With the market (here atleast) starting to settle, why would I risk not being able to leave here when I want becuase my house/condo/etc just won't sell as soon as I want it to?

Just a thought, but what happens when you decide to leave, and that market is dead slow and or crashed (as some people think it just might with the COL being as high as it is in this the avg. salary being low) and you have to take a loss. What happens to the money you've put into your place? It's gone. Atleast with my apt. all I have to do is keep it clean and if anything goes wrong I don't have to worry about shit.

I'm far to young to be worried about a house and a yard. Until I have kids I'll never own a home, maybe a condo/townhouse, but never a house. None of this is really up there on my list of things to do. Those who say that owning a house makes you grown, or something of that nature, need not throw stones because most people I know that own homes lived at home till 21-24. How is that acting as an adult?

(none of this is directed at you steve, just an argument on a point)

I bought a condo because I didn't want a yard, etc. I am planning on moving to NYC in 2 years. I wll look into selling or renting it out when the time comes. I am not saying it makes you grown, but my mom is a loan officer. It's been drilled into my head to establish great credit soon and buy, not rent.

Also, I understand almost all of your points, both of you. Like I said, I just can't see blowing $1000+ a month.
