I recently bought a lifan grx 200cc and i tried finding out at the dmv website but i couldnt find anything , is there an age requirement and/or do i need a motorcycles license or what? Thanks in advance

 

i'm not going to say what i think about your recent purchase, but as far as i know, in virginia you have to have a license, plates, and insurance for anything over 50cc's. i'm not sure about this, but that's what i've always heard.

 

yup, anything over 49cc, or that'll go over 35mph, or makes more than 1.5 hp, you have to have tags, a lisence, insurance, inspection, helmet, etc.

 

damn that sucks im only 16 so i cant get a license i bought it because i figured id use it for transportation until i get my drivers license looks like its goin back on ebay

you can't get a motorcycle lisence at 16?? i didn't know that. thats garbage. i got mine when i was 16, but then again, they didn't have all these goofy laws back then, like the stupid "motorcycle permit". i still think that's ghey.

i'll keep my opinions of it to myself, but good luck trying to sell that thing.

 

most anything that says "50" on it is usually only 49cc actually. most companies just round up.

 

well if he gets his permit now, he can get his license in 9 months. he could even take the MSF and it would save him the trouble of doing the test at the dmv. liability insurance on that thing would be cheap as dirt, being it's only 200 cc's (i guess that means to the insurance sompany you're less likely to kill yourself?). it would still not be very cheap and for those 9 permit months you would have to ride with another bike to be legal.

Wait until you've had your driver's license for 2 years, then try two wheels out. Just get used to driving a car or truck first. And get rid of the lifan, I'd suggest a ninja 500 when you want to learn, but that's just my suggestion.
