I was thinking about gutting my cat conv. Does anyone know how much that will change the tone of my exhaust? I have a stock muffler. Just wondering if it was worth the labor. I don’t want it to sound like shit either.
If you have a stock exhaust, why even waste the time in gutting your "cat"? I doubt you'd even notice a difference. Sound or performance.
But for what it's worth, I did it on my 2G turbo Eclipse with a cat back and noticed no difference what so ever.

You didn't notice a difference on a TURBO'D car? Um..
I'd say leave it for now. The first thing you should do is replace your super restrictive stock muffler with something high performance. Much more effective.

You are not gonna notice much of a difference in sound, maybe a little more gurgling, but unless you have a seriously high horsepower engine, it will not benefit you at all, especially if you even still have a stock exhaust. and possibly be very expensive if the fuzz ever get wind of it, and it will be noticibly stinkier.
