Opinions on a new daily/beater. 2 choices.
But on a serious note I can definitely see where Jay is coming from. If you want a beater get something like your mom's Hyundai. Something that has shit for aftermarket that way you won't want to mod it. You've owned tons of EF's and they have a huge aftermarket as well as VW's. You're gonna end up, up shit's creek w/o a paddle because you're gonna wanna mod 2 cars. You say you won't do it, but trust me the bug will get you.
It'll start off with little shit like suspension/wheels/etc then turn into motorswaps and turbo kits and then you're gonna hate life because your headache just doubled itself and your wallet turned inside out.

Trust me Joe, I know how incredibly dope MKII GTi's can be. They are probably the ONLY Volkswagen I would seriously consider buying. I've loved then since Adam (91GTi) had his Alpine White 16v that was slammed with nice wheels and a bike rack. Something about the car just appealed to me. However, the same goes for the CRX, at least in my opinion.
As far as the VR6 swap goes, I'm sure the reliability of a VR/Boosted VR is perfectly fine, it is just the time/money going into the swap that is not feasible right now, and somewhat neglects one of the major reasons as to why I am looking for a new beater in the first place. I am tired of not having a car to drive while the creamsicle is broken.
