this reminds me of my brothers reverse lights. He couldnt pass inspecting because they didnt work, so he just cut the wire and took the whole socket out, . he passed his inspecting because the law says they must work if there is a socket or something like that.

My old civic hatch didnt have a 3rd brake light and the inspector looked it up and the rule said if its on the car it has to work if its no sign of anything ever being there then you can pass.
