Default question for skr00z...

Dude, I have a set of EX500 carbs that I was rebuilding/ cleaning. The bike had been sitting for a couple months and of course, someone else was going to do some work before I ever saw it.

Anyway, took the one side apart and it wasn't too bad; expected more varnish than what I saw. When I took the second side apart is when I found out that the cast aluminum on the diaphragm side was broken off at the seal. I was wondering if there was something (JB Weld?) that would bond it together and be reliable, or should I just look for another set of carbs?

Also...you ever hook up an alarm/ remote starter on a bike before? Got one to try on the 636, and if I like it, I might put one on the fighter. On the plus side, I can get a discount for having the alarm on the bike...plus I can be the coolest with the remote start on the bike and the truck!!

look for some good used carbs, or you're gonna have leaks for life. there are epoxies that will bond, but you'll never get 100% seal.

as far as the remote, make sure you wire in a ground spring, i've seen remote started bikes start in gear, and it ain't pretty. remote start works better on an fi bike than it does on a carbed bike (unless the carbed bike is already warmed up) not something i would do, but, to each thier own.

if you wire it so the kickstand switch still works with the alarm, you should be safe.

Hey I know I already asked this but do you know where I can find a good supply of cheap ex500 parts? I want to do some stuff to my bike but need some parts.

Wire the remote start to activate only when the neutral bulb is lit. Should not be hard at all. Good point about the fi vs carb though. Leave it choked at night for remote starts in the morning?

The deal fell through on Brickhouse, it's not becoming an Indian dealership...they wanted $110 for a set of EX carbs about a week and a half ago...back to their old selves.

And thanx Steve, that's what I figured, but wanted to make sure.

you sure about that? i just got an e-mail from RL a few days ago offering me a job. he's the guy with the indian dealership rights in the area. just because they wanted that much for a set of carbs doesn't mean the deal fell thru. Glenda still owns the parts that are there, and she's still trying to make a fortune off them. As far as i was told, RL only bought the building and the american parts, not the jap stuff. been up there lately? that place is 2/3 empty compared to what it used to be like. most of the stuff that's really worth any money is gone. She wouldn't be getting rid of all that stuff if she planned on staying in buisness.
