Going for it.... 15,000 mile oil change interval.
3k. on everything. synthetic i go 5k. light duty diesels i go 5k, hd we do at 20k intervals.
you want to see how many engines i have replaced or had to pull the pan and clean out when people went more than that? case studies in real life (not lab) environments.
volvo's, particularly the 2.3T's, will coke up like a whore even when done at 7500 intervals like they say, i have had some that are badly clogged at 5k intervals. replaced three engines in 4 years, along with teardown and clean pan and pickup on one.
2.2/3.0 toyota engines, with some of the 2.7 and 3.4's also, will carbon up badly. replaced four of them in camry's in the last five years due to low oil pressure. pulled the valve cover off of one of them, and the carbon flakes were built up over the cams so bad it looked like the valve cover was still on there.
3.9/5.2/5.9 dodge engines were terrible about it, along with the 3.7 and 4.7's. done many a timing chain related issue to find the oil passages clogged causing the issue.
i havent myself done them, however, there are a shitton of BMW and Mercedes engines that are so bad at 60k that they have to be fully torn down to be cleaned correctly.
and yes...even the venerable SBC did it. especially under the intake if it was an EGR engine.
its cheap insurance. you can take the risk and do yours at higher intervals, but i dont take my customers longetivity lightly.

Apparently it was enough to make BMW reconsider the oil change interval and extend it to twice the amount when the free maintenance plan came about. The 7500 mile interval went to 15000 miles because it was on BMWs dime. In business it is about cutting corners to reduce costs, and this was a big deal. I think you will see that most owners that plan to own the vehicle past the warranty tend to change the oil at 7500.

My 70,000 mile SL6 looked nice and clean when I cracked her open. I've pulled a few pan's of other LSXs and those all look nice and clean. Maybe the difference is synthetic oil, who knows. Maybe they're using junk oil filters.
I change mine when the light tells me.
Free oil changes from HALL ACURA they call me and tell me I should be close, it's about 7.5k for me. BMW does them once per yr. and it's like $150.00 or something like that.
