Evo vs. STI
I've finally driven both cars and I can say that without a shadow of a doubt, Subaru wouldn't get my dime. Stock for stock, acceleration is close enough that you're not going to see a difference unless your at a drag strip (which neither car should be purchased for). Chassis dynamics are heavily in favor of the Evo. It feels like it's on edge just cruising down the highway. I had no idea they would be as much fun to drive as they are. They feel like they weigh about 500lbs less than an STi. I like them....a lot. I want one now.
As mentioned in previous post there are some difference between the VIII and the IX...Mivec, larger compressor housing, which will lead to more HP gains with early bolt on and tunes....but once you swap out turbos, the difference is minimal. It all depends on your budget and whether you want one used or new.
If you decided to go used, go for the 05+.
