all GTO's are 2 doors, not 4 doors
and you can get a V8 Grand Prix now
when the G8 is released the Grand Prix will be no more,
the new GTO's will be on the new Camaro chassis
the G8 is the Holden Commodore and the new Camaro and GTO will be from the Holden Monaro which is a smaller version of the Commodore chassis

Obviously I'm going to bring up points against domestic pony cars, that's what this fucking thread is about.
Hard to say but the last generation Camaro could be found at 3300, and a few even less. Although most were fully optioned cars that weighed out in the 3400-3600 area, but that is all about what you want. All I had was power door locks and windows, and the even more rare option a hardtop.

my v6 was 3100, my formula is 3300 with t-tops, power everything, leather, and a 6 speed.

Everything I've heard about the car is that it's completely overrated and way overpriced for what you get.
Considering with very mild mods (intake, Pulley, Tune=90-100whp) the GT500s are becoming badass cars. One of them with a KB swap just hit 800whp or so.

For $42K MSRP, that's not a bad deal. However the stealerships are the ones that have priced it into Z06 territory and beyond and that alone makes it a shitty deal. For the money the Z06 is the best thing on 4 wheels and when you price the GT500 at the same level, you get screwed.

I also agree that the new ponies will weigh in over 3,400, but I honestly believe the Camaro will at least weigh less than 3,800 for a mildly equipped coupe (and I'd be willing to bet that a barebones factory coupe can weigh less than 3,600)...the convertible will weigh more, and obviously if you start throwing in every option available it's going to start stacking quickly.

By the way, my days of taking shit too seriously are way over...I'm enjoying the discussion, and obviously my first post was to stir the shitpot up...and it's great having the Ford, Dodge, and GM guys in here finally able to discuss our cars like it means something again.

And of course the import guys throwing in their two cents about domestics weighing too much yadda yaddda is a beautiful thing to see again.

I'm just happy to admit that I've done it all, and anyone who knows my vehicle history knows that I have dipped my hands in a bit of everything (except for Dodge, I'm allowed my one sinful bias).
MerF, I don't mean to burst your MerFly bubble, but the G8 is a replacement for the Grand Prix. I work at GM, and we made/make components for these cars as well as the G6. The GTO is being quietly redesigned over the next few years and will come back in 2010/11 or so.

Don't be suprised if you see a new GTO or Trans Am concept at the 2008 Detroit Autoshow. The G8 would have been named Grand Prix, but the bigwigs decided that the name Grand Prix is tired and becoming less and less appealing to buyers. G8 was introduced (much like the G5 and G6) to get people's heads turning like 'Wow, Pontiac is finally bringing some excitement back'.

You should really do some more research before you call it basemodel v8 with a body kit LMAO How about a forged 5.4 with a roots blower (base v8 is still a 4.6), upgraded brakes and suspension, mid-low 12's stock out of the box, 11's with a couple of boltons, 10's with full boltons, and one has even run 9's already on a ported stock blower/boltons/75 shot. Yes, I drive a Dodge, but I give credit where it's due, and the GT500 is a badass car, I'd have no problem parking one next to the R/T. But truth be told, when I'm ready to drop $45K on a car, it'll be on a 96-99 Viper GTS

So yes, Dodge and Chevy both have catching up to do, as they're both coming the party a lil late. It will be very interesting to see what happens when all of these cars are on the road.
