i agree with the DON'T DRIVE LIKE AN IDIOT chant. but at the same time this law is what it is, a way for the state gov't (pick your branch i don't care, they all work out of the same check book) to raise money. I think it's pathetic the ammount of money the state wastes each year. (think I-64 overpass that took almost 6 years to complete, don't EVEN get me started on Warwick). And instead of relieveing traffic to reduce pollution they're increasing it by causing more tie ups? I'm no civil engineer by any means but come on.

The SF freeway collapse from a few months ago was fixed in something like 2 weeks. And this guy was the lowest bidder! He saved the taxpayers almost 2 million dollars, and for his expediency recieved a $500k bonus. That is intelligent.

The fines for more serious and grevious offenses (DUI, leaving the scene, and more sever reckless tickets like 2X posted limit) should be more severe. However over a g for not signaling? that's a bit steep, and imo hard to justify. If people wouldn't commit as many crimes (actual ones), state atty fees wouldn't be so relavant. If the state could tax the percentage of the population that has sway in richmond (NEVER going to happen) the money would be there, i have no doubt. People are so afraid of increases in taxes they resist just about anything.

The state tax on liquor hasn't changed since 1978 (?). Last time i checked no one NEEDED liquor. I'm sure there's money to be had there. Hell tax people who make more than 50% of their income on e-bay.

i think the reckless should be situational. for instance, my gf is just learning how to drive MT and she has accidently chirped starting out, i dont think she should get the huge fine for losing traction

No. These new fines will only apply to the offenses that occur after July 1st.

So who was responsible for voting on these new fines? Maybe people should call and express their concerns for them, or send them letters. Or maybe just send them boxes of dog shit and a card. Maybe a singing telegram, complete with some fake money and "make it rain".

I guess what I am having a hard time understanding is how his issue never got any press until it was too late. I'm sure if asked this question, any media outlet, and the Gen Assy as well, would state that all of their procedings are open and public, and that this information has been out there for all to see......but jesus how the hell could they have been working on this, and the public not know about it till it's too late? They really relied on the public's apathy here to not give a shit about what is going on in Richmond. I wonder how many media outlets knew this was coming and were asked by the GA to keep quiet.......There is no doubt in my mind that if they snuck this dick into our asses, there are more coming. Just wait until the new transportation "Authority" is able to dip into your wallet.

I agree with the laws. I thought the signal one was a little stupid at first, but then I think about how many accidents I have almost got in because some asshole didn't use his signal. It's like second nature to me to use a signal everythime I change lanes or make a turn so I won't have a problem.
