okay im getting that loud pecking noise under my valve cover. Im thinking i can solve some of the noise by changing my oil. The owner before me put
10w30 Mobile1 in it but everyone i know puts either 15w40 or 50 in theres imma change it tom. Anybody think it will quiet down the loud noise? I love my bimmer but damn that noise!

i was getting ready to say the same thing, just get some lucas oil stabilizer. works wonders.

I dunno how similar it is to DSM lifter tick but I heard a lot of people add half a quart of tranny fluid to your oil and it will clean all the build up off. You shouldn't drive around like that for long though because it will eat any seals. Just rinse it out with fresh oil. I wouldnt try it though unless it got really terrible but I heard of some DSMs having such bad lifter tick that it will trigger the knock sensor.

 

Mine is terrible, It was really bad during the winter but it just pops up during the summer. I even tried the oil stabilizer, but it didn't help. I haven't checked DSMlink while its ticking to see if it triggers knock sensor might have to check that today. Guess I'll just have to switch to 3rd gen lifters. Hope the lucas works for you.

 

what kind of fogs do you have? I believe that was you I saw a few days ago. I didn't know you actually drove that car. I usually just see it sitting there; You must work 24 hours a day.
