Default good project car on ~$5,000 budget?

everything title says; i just need to learn / play around with some stuff before i spring for some good shit sadly, i'm not too huge a fan of civics, and i've heard that those are great beginner rides. let me know what you think!

Depends on what you like. Domestics have pretty much been covered. Civics and 240s have been done to death... but there is a reaason.

Old volvo 240s can be built to 300 RWHP for cheap but you have to like those. VW Scirroco would be cool. And my last suggestion would be an old subaru RS 2 door AWD. Swap WRX or Sti motor and the sky is the limit.

Expen$ive. I don't really understand his budget though. Does he want to spend $5k on the BONE STOCK CAR and then have another budget for gettin it to 300+ whp? Or is he lookin at gettin car AND modifications to 250-300 whp

But I agree with this, an RS with FMIC'd STi motor would be nice.
