If it's a few teeth off, it's not the gears. Turning the gear body and jumping teeth are totally different things obviously. Two teeth would be a lot of adjustment range on a set of cam gears, so unless you're not seeing what you think you're seeing, you probably just have a tension problem.

It sounds like you are not setting the timing correctly. Is there any slack on the belt once you set the timing?

all answeres above could obviously be the prob, but one more thing to check is your cam bridges...
if any of the cam bridges are torqued too much, could cause some
"cam bind" if you will...and not allow cams to turn properly...
if this happened you might want to start looking for a new head or you will have to line bore and get new cams due to damage..
but id check all other recommendations first...tensioner/belt/cam gears
hope thats helps bro..gl

Thats odd, they have different sized shafts...

I am at a loss, if he is building your motor, why are you messing with the timing?

Either way, when the belt was installed..was it rotated by hand, and set back to TDC, to make sure everything was correct?

you are wrong, go do your research! all b series cams gears are the same, the bolts thats hold the gear onto the cam is different from a 12 mm (ls)to a 14mm(b16/17/gsr/type r). and h23 is also the same.

go look at a site selling cam gears like skunk 2 they will all have the same part number for all dohc b series non v tec and v tec, and h23
