I tried searching google and nra.org, etc, but I can't find out where to go in NoVa (or fairfax to be more specific) to apply for my concealed weapons permit.

Can anyone help me out? what forms to get, where to go, what I need to do exactly.

i know you need to take the class first that gives you your certification and then go to i believe the court house where you apply for the permit. then within 4-6 weeks you recieve it. I've been meaning to get off my ass and get mine but i'm just too lazy to go. lol

Take a class. Hunter safety counts as well but is not a smart move. Take a CHL/CCW class and pass the range test. Then take it along with $50 cash to the clerk of circuit courts. Fill out the paper work, swear in, sign off and pay your permit costs. Then they have up to 45 days to send the permit to you if you clear everything. Lately FFX and other NoVA counties have been using all that time. If they fail to send it to you on day 45, this is calendar days not business days. You go into the court and speak with the clerk. THEY MUST PRESENT YOU WITH A TEMP LICENSE. Of which you will then need to bring back once your permit is complete.


In the mean time. Find a proper carry gun if you do not already own one. Just because you have a range gun doesn't make it a suitable carry gun. Then buy yourself a quality holster, no Uncle Mikes bullshit and a proper gun belt. My suggestion for a holster is Comp-Tac's Kydex line up. Any one of their holsters will work. Its your choice as which one you want. The C-Tac is my daily use and the M-Tac is also quite nice. A gun belt can be purchased from The Belt Man. I dont suggest using any kind of Guess/Abercrombie type belts. They will stretch out and not hold the weight of the gun properly. Bad belts and holsters mean falling pants and 2 weeks later you stop carrying.

Last thing anyone needs is to have another CCW mention you are peaking.


I also suggest learning the VA laws inside and out. Not only concealed laws but Open Carry as well. You will be doing both in your daily routine.

 

Just in case you travel, you might wanna check that the state your goin to allows the Virginia CCP. As an example, Maryland doesn't allow us to bring hand guns even if we have a conceal carry permit. You could also take the Utah CCP class, it adds a few states to the Virginia CCP.

It's all up to you though and what you plan on.
