what would cause 5th gear to pop out to neutral while driving

Actually bad syncro's causes griding and not gears to "pop" out. If the tranny was rebuilt or messed with, the shims could be incorrect...or missing all together causing improper shift ring alignment. Another cause for the dreaded "popping out" is worn shift forks.

Pretty much everything else will cause griding.

check fluid cuz mine did it right after i did my swap and it came to my mind that its low on fluid

or broken forks on eg trannys. alum forks suck
