They lack grip and that they are basically fast wearing, expensive street tires.

potenza REO70 . excelent grip, stiff ass sidewalls, and i get 20k miles on my sti. perfect for a lightweight honda and weekend tires.

where did you hear that? They are becoming a popular track tire for the s2k atleast

I've heard it from a couple of guys that were running at VIR, and from one of the teams at the Red Line event at Summit.

Kumho Mx or Falkin 615s for a gripy streetable tire. Kumho 710s for dedicated autocross tires.
If you run street tires in SP, don't really expect to do very well. Think of it as training in that class until you're ready to step up to the R compounds.
