Default Easy fix or screw it and stick with my clunker

The car iam going to pick up is an 98 dodge neon that blew the timing belt going 25...its the DOHC model..

I was thinking the valves would shut when the belt messed up and the valves would be okay i have heard from half the people i talked to say this car should be fine..throw an belt on it and drive..the other half seems to think that when the belt broke that it would just drop all the valves and they would smack the piston heads....

What do yall think...is it worth the tow bill and timing belt or just let it sit and rust

Btw the car is free family member didnt want to fix it

Its an interference motor, it will cost you more than a belt, probably head work as well.

^^ When that timing belt went on that old motor i'm sure it took alot with it. I would imagine valves broken, guides cracked, possible piston damage.

Find another head for cheap and be done with it.

edit: Free car, tow bill, used head = profit on resale.

I have a complete head for that car actually minus a valve cover, I'll sell it for $50 if interested.

The heads are cheap as others have stated. They have issues w/ the gasket.

they'll bolt up, but i think the exhaust and intake ports are different. You can use a 2.4 Stratus/cirrus/ seibring etc head
