i work at a couple of shops in mechanicsville when i was in highschool and the year after and both the shops worked just like you described get a part charge more the part then they paid for it and i wasnt a certified ase tech and i was doing brakes, allignments, tires hell i was doing the state inspection for the inspector and would tell him if the car passed or not and he would write the ticket. shops are shady you just have to find a good shop and stay with them.

How not all technicians are, nor do they have to be ASE certified
There is not set guide on how parts are priced being many places have a 50 to 300% markup
That the customer is billed for the repair regardless of the techs experience nor how long it takes him.
Until you spend a few years in this business and actually learn how Service(I am not talking the selling point, but the running of a service dept and expense management) works, I would just stfu.

Being you brought up issues that you disagreed with in your first post about how the industry is and not the shops operations, it appears that you have no real idea of what you want to bitch about. Are you pissed that you can't turn for shit and some GS tech got your work?
