My dad took his car there for something really simple. And something realllly shady happened. Not sure if I should mention it though...

i work at a couple of shops in mechanicsville when i was in highschool and the year after and both the shops worked just like you described get a part charge more the part then they paid for it and i wasnt a certified ase tech and i was doing brakes, allignments, tires hell i was doing the state inspection for the inspector and would tell him if the car passed or not and he would write the ticket. shops are shady you just have to find a good shop and stay with them.

 

The only thing that is wrong here is the inspection part. That guy would get fined out of the ass if they found out about that!

Apparently you don't have the slightest clue. You're own post in this thread proves you don't. Apparently you need to understand a few things..
How flat rate works
How not all technicians are, nor do they have to be ASE certified
There is not set guide on how parts are priced being many places have a 50 to 300% markup
That the customer is billed for the repair regardless of the techs experience nor how long it takes him.

Until you spend a few years in this business and actually learn how Service(I am not talking the selling point, but the running of a service dept and expense management) works, I would just stfu.

I would suggest that if you make a rant, then accept the replies you get. If not, feel free to delete your post or have a mod/admin do it.

A SERVICE WRITER ASKED ME TO CHECK AND SEE IF A 5.0 MUSTANG WAS A DUEL OVERHEAD CAM. I LAUGHED AND WALKED AWAY...THATS WHAT THE THREAD IS ABOUT

Not everyone in the industry is shady. There are actually a lot of honest people in the business. You just aren't experienced enough to work for a bigger shop.

Being you brought up issues that you disagreed with in your first post about how the industry is and not the shops operations, it appears that you have no real idea of what you want to bitch about. Are you pissed that you can't turn for shit and some GS tech got your work?
