sunday was my first time. i hardly ever put mine threw its paces before sunday. i know i left alot out on the track, but i had fun and still learned about my car and its reactions. come on out and give it a shot, i know i will return.

 

Well, heres the deal. I have always wanted to try autox, but I have a hardtop miata(bone stock). Do I have to have a roll bar for the car? I am pretty positive I do but I don't have the funds right now for a legal one. So I was just seeing. Probably a dumb question.

 

You don't need a rollbar or hardtop for auto-x, you're mixing that up with HPDEs; you need either a hardtop or rollbar for those.

 

If you get your miata aligned, it will practically drive itself around the autocross course. No need for anything else.

Just bring it out, make sure you have all of your lug nuts on and tight, make sure you're not profusely leaking oil/coolant/brake fluid/tranny fluid/diff fluid/any other type of fluid, make sure your battery wont fly around and hit you in the face, and make sure your throttle doesnt stick.

 

How many times do we do the course on raceday? Besides the after-race fun runs, is there any chance to practice?

 

Most organizations allow for atleast 4 runs, and sometimes can grant 5 or 6.
The most I've personally gotten was 21 (or maybe 22) runs at Langley during a NASA event; but the course was very quick.
Besides walking the course, you have no other opportunities (that I can think of) to "practice." Most groups won't allow you to ride as a passenger prior to your heat because that gives you an unfair advantage, however you should be able to ride with someone in a later heat, granted you don't have to work that heat.

 

lol.. the first NASA event was crazy - after 20 runs i was so tired i wanted a nap before driving home.

If you want to see what it's like, you can ride shottie with me and help balance out my car I'm sure there are lots of people that'll give you a ride too but i'll tell you though, it's scary as shit from that side, not being in control and all.

Dude, I drive a mustang. My shit leaks SOMETHING from just about every seal, and I'm still coming out. As long as its not pouring out of your engine, you'll be fine. They probably wont even notice.
