HRBT to be expanded But.......?
I disagree. There is some sort of complex with tunnels and people in this area. If there wasn't, then I wouldn't constantly run into people driving 30MPH through the tunnel with no traffic in front of them.
People are ridiculous going through the tunnel. The last day that I was living on the peninsula the tunnel was shut down due to someone breaking down. Once it finally got cleared we were free to go through. I literally passed some bitch who was in the right lane doing 45mph. No one was infront of her, she was just chatting away with her boyfriend holding up a huge line of people.
The tunnel seriously needs to be opened up to at least three lanes each way and people should start getting tickets for failure to obey speed limit, too slow.

Navy would never allow a bridge over HRBT; it wartime, it's too vulnerable to attack, and would block the shipping channel, and access to/from the navy base.
Monitor-Merrimac is less of an issue, as it's not so crippling to our war effort if a collapsed bridge blocked the james river.
ALL the highways around here need to be expanded, there's just too many people. People need to learn how to drive over tunnels and bridges, too- there is NO reason the high-rise bridge should back up heading towards VA Beach- it's 2 lanes approaching, 2 lanes on the tunnel, and gains a lane after the tunne- yet it backs up does every day because people are just flipping idiots around here who can't maintain their speed.

Ok besides the traffic building up everyday at certain times.. Have any of you ever been caught in the traffic when they actually close the tunnel down for working crews to switch sides?
I have about 6x now.. Everyday at certain times they close the tunnel down to allow working crews to switch sides.. For what purpose I just don't understand..
That's what starts most of the traffic throughout the day believe it or not..
Then you have the idiots who get scared and have to slam on their brakes entering the tunnel.. yeah some winners there..

I've seen them close the downtown tunnel so that the motherf'ing city truck can pull onto the highway without waiting for a break in traffic. Pisses me off to no end when they do stuff like that.

yeah who cares if my family comes out the tunnel at 45/50mph and T-bones a double axle Dump truck with Pablo and Julio hanging off the sides!

Pablo and Julio can just wait for a break in traffic like everyone else. Don't red-light the tunnel and create a 5-mile traffic snarl (which often causes rear-end collisions) because they're too lazy to wait for a natural break in traffic.

I mean, sure, she could have just stuck her nose out and had some jackass come out of tunnel racing some other jackass and we just have a huge pile of jackasses smashing into her.
That's really what I want to happen...fuck safety.
