Judge denies Outer Banks beaches closure injunction
Late Friday afternoon, US District Court Judge Terrence Boyle denied the request from the Southern Environmental Law Center for an injunction which, if issued, would have closed large portions of Bodie Island, Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island to both vehicular and pedestrian travel until the National Park Service completes a permanent management plan for those areas.
The judge set a court hearing for Friday, April 11, to hear the terms of a proposed settlement agreement between the Defenders of Wildlife and the Audubon Society, clients of the Law Center, and the National Park Service.

I have been meaning to check up on this. I guess this means they aren't planning on closing the beach...at least for now!
Good deal. Last season was the first time I have driven on it...had a blast! My family was looking forward to it again this year. Both my daughters (8 & 4) have been talking about bringing some of their friends this year! I have to go get my transmission rebuilt, but I plan on it!
Was there any threat to the Corolla beaches, or just the south end?

I have heard that now you can't hit the beaches until July. Can anyone confirm this? And does this also pertain to the northern beaches like Corova and Swan Beach? Not real sure how you can close North 12 since there are some people that live there year round?

They could probably close it to residents only. There are many communities that have a gate guard and they have to show id to access their house...wouldn't be hard to imagine that. I was looking at houses in corova and swan's beach, but I can't afford them and another house. The commute would kill me and I would have to get a 4X4 mini van for the wife!
seriously, litter should be a bigger concern that "hazardous liquids" that LLAMA thinks are spewing from the beach goers

O and the commute is not that bad. I work in norfolk and when I leave from the beach it takes me a hr and 10-15 min to get to work. But you have to take the boat over to knotts island and leave from there. And from KI it is exactly 50 miles to norfolk int. terminals.
