An inelastic good or service is one in which changes in price witness only modest changes in the quantity demanded or supplied, if any at all. These goods tend to be things that are more of a necessity to the consumer in his or her daily life.
For the longest time, oil companies have been able to set the price, just recently, because of all the bitching, this is under a lot more digression (Last summer oil companies becoming open towards lawsuits for unfair pricing). It really doesn't matter if the good is inelastic or not (and that's one hell of a modest price change). The simple truth is the we 'need' gas, they have gas. We use less gas, they loose a lot of money, they raise the price of gas, then we're sitting at "even" once again.
The other point is that it's non-renewable, whenever the availability of something already valuable decreases, the price price increases.
Use more, we're fucked, use less we're fucked. So it really doesn't matter in the end. Though I do wonder, if in fact we do run out during our lifetime, what will happen to the oil companies?

This is funny. Normally the people that buy hybrids for the money savings arent pricks. Normally it's the ones who think they're doing Mother Nature a favor that ride the high horse.

have you driven an insight? it is actually quicker than a stock base model honda civic and toyota corolla, so if everyone else is driving slow cars daily what good does it do driving a fast one, you can only go but so fast in traffic.

Doubtful that any of your cars can beat his unless you're running low 10s or 9s...which I doubt esp. since you're all about your insight.

Why would I? I like my balls where they are.
Again, I enjoy having 500whp getting 15 MPG in the City and 25 on the Hwy and paying $4 a gallon because I fucking can. I also enjoy being able to merge at the speed of traffic and passing people when ever I feel like it without even dropping a gear.

Hmmm...your arguement fails. I know what I get everytime I've taken a road trip and that's been about 24-25 MPG which is what a lot of them are saying. I also get about 15-16mpg in the city which is what a lot of them are saying again.

Tie Fitr is different then most of those Cobras since he has the Viper tranny with the lower ratio 6th gear which is just like the new Z06s. I'm not suprised he gets 27-28 mpg.

Hell....ask Doing OK what mileage he gets on his Z06
