WRX ot not?
Weak link is the transmission which if you have the money get a PPG gear box with about 5 g's.
Stis are a waste of money because, A. The Subaru 4 pots with new lines, fluid, and a decent pads, will have the same fade as the brembo package and be effecient.

the STi's gearing sucks ass, its a shame when a 470whp STi cant brake into the 11's but a wrx with 350whp can.

Better power capabilities my ass. An 06wrx has the same EXACT engine as an 07-08 STI. Sodium Filled valves, slightly higher compression pistons, same intake manifold, etc. There is no different in power capability in the 06wrx compared to ANY sti from 04-now. Some might be saying "well what about the transmission, the handeling" Chassis is the exact damn same, STi has stiffer suspension and sway bars, all of that can be upgraded on the WRX and handle the same way as an STi, as far as the tranny the STi's gearing sucks ass, its a shame when a 470whp STi cant brake into the 11's but a wrx with 350whp can.
Now in my little rant Im talking about buying these cars new, if your looking at used cars, FUCK YEAH buy a used Sti there dirt cheap and you can get em for less then 20k. But if your buying new or slightly used and plan on going all out start with a WRX, you end up saving more money and getting more bang for the buck in the long run, (with an 06wrx). 2.0liters suck major donkey balls.

I have owned a few Subaru's and I currently have an 02 WRX for sale as a matter of fact. I won't push my sale in this case because I want to give you my honest opinion on the car.
It is a good platform depending on how far you'd like to go with it. For an affordable DD/Weekend autocrosser as you stated, a bugeye would get the job done for you.
They are comfortable to drive daily and very solid, and AWD is a great thing to have for a DD. Gas mileage is acceptable though not the greatest. Still, on the highway I've seen over 26mpg out of mine.
The transmission is obviously the weak point, I have broken some subaru transmissions in my time. But proper driving technique, the proper clutch, and not throwing more power than it can handle at it... you can daily drive a 280hp WRX w/o breaking the transmission. I've seen people put down over 300 on stock trannies but again... it comes down to your set up and how you drive it.
The car is a good value, and with suspension and a few little go fast bits it will be a very fun car that you can drive daily rain or shine. My Subaru's have always been greatly reliable sans the transmission issues.
I'd say go for it... and if you're in the market pm me haha.

lol then both of you are idiots. In 07(STI) they switched the heads and etc. The compression ratio is the exact fucking same and so are the part numbers for the valves, cams, intake manifold, and pistons. Ive been doing this shit for awhile.
False. The MY06 WRX has a EJ255. The STI (EJ257) has different heads, pistons, crank, rear differential, axles, DCCD, among a few other things.
So that puts you a few grand away from a STi and you still haven't done anything but reinforce the transmission.
Sweet. Now you can stop as well as a stock STI.
Haha. That's called someone who can't drive. There are quite a few full weight STIs with less power that run 10s.

lol Seriously go re look up your fact dude. Never stated they are the same as the 04-06s. In 07's the engine was changed, slightly. Kinda how in 07 theyve got that annoying little air pump the same as the 06wrx. Do some more research. And 22k compared to 32k is a PRETTY BIG DIFFERENCE brand new. Cranks the same as well numb nutts, all 2.5 liter turbo Subies from 05 on run the same damn crank. Including the Legacy GT.
P.S. There is a HUGE power capability differance between the 2.5 wrx/sti and 2.0 WRX...which is what were talking about.
i cant wait to put my touch into it and make it my own..im just gonna wait til i get these 30 day tags come off ha
