Default yep, another one of my dumb "how to" threads...

SO, i not too long ago purchased a yoshi exhaust for ny SV to make into a shorty... went to a shop and they wanted too much money to do it...

i know its simple and fast.. but im not familiar with the insides of an exhaust.. so and i dont wanna ruin my pipe...

here's how I THINK that you do it... cut the exhaust where you want it... drill out (on either side) the cap thing... re drill the holes on the can and RE-rivet it FTW.

RIGHT!!????

they tried to charge me OUTRAGEOUS ("anywhere $60-$120") for doing this job... at a place that i go to ALL the time... like ALL TEH TIhM....

If anything i'll do that shit myself when my shoulder is cleared and i'll prob never go there again in my existence

Actually, they were probably figuring $60/ hour with no more than 2 hours. I think my first shorty took me about 3 hours!

Actually, the best way to do it is to drill out the rivits holding the end cap on, or take out the screws if you can. Then you can usually see what's going on inside. If you go too far, you could mess up the internal baffles. Usually, I try to cut the outer skin and pull that off so that I am taking apart the can one layer at a time. With my 636, it was all welded, so I ended up chiselling it off.

Once you get to the length you want, then put the end cap back on, re-drill, and install new rivits...remount and be over joyed in saving a butt ton of money from taking it to a shop!!

Granted, it will probalby take you 3-5 hours of your life including removing and installing the can...but fuggit!!

well as for the price you are paying for someone elses time and expierence. as far as cutting and then re riviting and being done there is more to it than that. go to gixxer.com there is a nice write up on it under 04-05 gsxr 600 section. alot of times you have to cut the baffle a little shorter than the pipe it self. mine took me about a hour to a hour and a half to do so if you figure 60-70 a hour at a hour in a half you get 90-105 plus the cost of rivets or what ever else they need the quotes are probally pretty close but hey ill do it for 75.00

Start with one scratched up Muzzy exhaust, bought as a full system on EBAY for a whopping $150...

Drill out rivets holding end cap on....

A simple die grinder to cut away the outside of the can....

One the outside is cut away, there was a inner tube that had holes in it, cut that up too and then take some scissors and cut the baffle material (it's a fabric type material).

Drill new holes, put end cap back in, and rivet away! I also left out the mid pipe to give it that super short look. Sounds bad ass, and scared the shit out of people walking on the sidewalk when i drove by and revved it at them.
