Default speedometer doesnt work in civic?

sup guys,

have a 94 auto civic,dx. My speedometer doesnt work,its does work sometimes,but then just stops and wont read anything (sits at 0) the connector on the trans is all the way on,so its not like its disconnected. What could be the problem?

speed sensor is bad. or loose ground wire

doesnt throw any codes though,if my VSS was bad,it would throw a CEL

take out the cluster and make sure its plugged in all the way?

not always. i have had loose wires go into my VSS plug that caused my speedo to work whenever it wanted too. also had a VSS go bad and work whenever it wanted too and never threw a code.

but its an automatic,wouldnt a bad VSS mess with the way the car shifts,since the auto trans needs to see a signal from the VSS to know when to shift?

mine did the same thing after a swap, but it just had some anifreeze in the plug itself, i took the air hose to it and it worked fine. check that and see what happens....

if you car has abs then it would set a code but under the abs not the check engine light and no the vss has nothing to do with the shift points computer does that with the tps and the rpms but if you dont have abs the no light would come on and you speed sensor would be bad or there is a part on you printed circut board on the back of the gauge cluster that could be burnt
