The worst part about selling Porsches...
... is having to listen to ignorant customers trash Corvettes daily. It's pretty funny that almost every Porsche prospect ends up talking about a Corvette completely unprovoked from me. I keep my mouth shut and generally agree with them
I get treated to much of the following:
"Corvettes just can't handle, the frame twists all over the place"
"Corvettes can only accelerate in a straight line, that's all they're good for"
Etc. etc. I truly find it amusing that while GM uses the Porsche 911 as their benchmark for the Corvette, it seems that Porsche customers/prospects are very concerned with being "better" than the Corvette.
Just a few minutes ago a Boxster S customer told me, "Nothing can keep up with my Boxster S, those guys in the 350Zs and the M3s try but they just cant hang. M3s are like 4000 lbs and the 350Zs are just slow. It's because my engine and transmission are connected directly together, I just hit the gas and she goes. Even Corvettes, I mean their frames all twist and you can see the door moving. My buddy has a C6 and it can go faster than me but from 50-130 he can't keep up."
I'm laughing in my head the whole time.

Unfortunately a lot of people that end up buying a Porsche can't drive worth a shit. But than I again, every one I ever see in Boston is more banged up than an old sentra. Hell I saw some jackass driving one of those GT3 RS (whatever the hell it is, it was bright orange) chatting on the phone, slamming every pothole in the road.
The worst part about Porsches is the sterotype
At least they're relatively rare in 757, if they were as ubiquitous as mustangs or corvettes, I'm not sure it would have the same "exotic" appeal.
You'll run into assholes in any kind of car. I mean, they wouldn't be buying a porsche if they didn't think it was the best car for them, would they? It's hard not to compare cars when shopping. I test-drove a Miata, Z4, Solstice, S2000, Corvette, Boxster and finally Boxster S and believe me- every time I sat in a new car I was very consciously comparing it to the others. I wasn't making up bullshit like the OP is talking about, though; more like "Good god, anything who's over 6' and says they 'fit' in this S2000 should sit in a fucking corvette some time to find out what the word 'fit' really means!"
BTW, I like corvettes and know full well there are faster cars than mine. But oh, it's such fun to drive!
Yeah? Come on out and race me sometime!

Porsches (especially Boxters) are affordable enough to be status symbols, and thats a big market share. Most of the Boxter owners I see around here are female lawyers and real estate agents, talking on the phone and driving under the speed limit with bad driving skills. I still haven't figured out how to confiscate cars and redistribute them to deserving people (like me).
