Exclamation The Parts House- bad business

Ok heres my story.... so I'm driving ya know typical day, taking my wife to work. It's been almost 2 months since i got the transmission done and new fluid flush yada yada. So here i am not even 2 blocks from my house when...THUMP! My car stops and i pull over and thinking ok maybe its just something stupid. So I lift up the hood and thinking what happened, ya know. So i scan around and I notice my timing belt loose, kinda flimsy. I give it a tug and the belt comes off. I was like wtf yo. So i call up who i think can get it fixed as soon as i needed it...The Parts House. So i give Jay a call tell him i need a tow and my timing belt fixed. He gets the tow and doesnt even look at the car a tells me some bs story or what not. Then he tells me $250 and he'll change the timing belt and give it a compression test. Well i bring him $110 and tell him if he could get started on it. He say ok nad snatches the money from my hand and says I still need $140 more so that he could pay his mechanic. Well next day i come back to the shop with the rest of the cash and asked if he had gotten started he says my mechanic is at court and that he'll be in later that day and he can start it. I pull out the rest of the cash and like a greedy little thing from LOTR he takes and says he'll order the part and start the work. Well Friday rolls around and I'm in need of my car to drive (luckily i rented a car that day) and i ask John if he'd seen Jay. He tells me naw not yet. I asked him if he knew if my car had been started on and he says its been sitting in the same spot the day i came in. I'm like so Jay hasnt even touched it nad he says nope. At this point I'm super pissed cuz i forked $250 out my ass out of my vaction cash and its still a sittin duck. So i says fuck it i'll be back sunday. Well Sunday comes and i head to the shop. Jay is there and i asked what happened to starting on my car he says Oh well i turned the cams and notice either #2 or #3 cylinder has a bent valve. I'm like ok and... Did you fix the belt? He tells me he put a new belt on to test it and them takes it off anad sends it back. I'm looking at him like Eli Porter like wtf dude. So he explains to me thats the $250 was to pay his mechanic for 5 hours of labor for a job that takes 2 then doesnt even put a belt on the car, like what sense does that make. SERIOUSLY. So he sits there in his lil chair and says tell ya what since it was a miscommunication it order a new belt charge you again for the part but put it on for no cost. So at this point im like alright just hurry the fuck up. So Tuesday pops up and i go to the shop to get my car cuz at this point I'm feed up with his crook of shit. He pulls out the recipt and i look over it and he charges me an extra $46 for the tow which he never mentioned i'd had to pay when i came in, then $35 for the belt and $15 for tax. So I hand him the $35 and grab my key and go to my car. Turn the ignition and... Nothing. I lift the hood ad my battery, my Injen short ram, my flip out head unit, and some turbo parts are missing from the car and I'm asked him where my shit was and he says, I'm not responsible if your parts get stolen on my lot. He better be glad i didnt call the cops that day either. So i grab a battery and start the car and tried pullin out and John comes out and says Oh yeah the other belts arent on the car. I ignore what he says and just go. Never in my life have i ever gone thru so much bs im over a week. I advise you all if your looking for good quailty DONT take your car to The Parts House. What a big waste of my money going there.

Sounds like some shady stuff. You made lot of mistakes though when dealing with a business you weren't familiar with.
I wouldn't have paid up front like that, once someone has your money they don't have much incentive to be honest of do what they said. You didn't get any kind of receipt either when you paid. When they said the mechanic was in court, I would have ran. There are other things too, but I'm bored of this and wont' go into them.
Next time you need something done, go to a reputable shop, find out when it will be done, make sure what they did is what you asked for, and that you should be called whenever something is different than discussed, and pay when the work is done. Also, get a quote beforehand, and ask to be called if anything is different than the quote.
I'm sorry the shop sounds like a bunch of lazy hacks, but you didn't really protect yourself very well either.
And you should have called the cops about the stolen stuff, you've just lost all of your parts (which are probably in the possession of the shop employees judging by this whole experience) and you have no recourse now because the car is back in your possession.
I hope you've learned something from this, both about what types of shops you should go to, and how to deal with them.

And in your signature, it should be "rue the day".

that seems weird...

jay has never done me wrong.
neither have any of the guys up there. all i know is at another local shop i was previously working (if thats what you call it) for , i cant see you being pissed at the time it took, to get your car worked on....
its a first come first serve.... its always like that. just because your car broke dosent mean that other deadlines that may be there need to be skipped....

you have to understand how a shop works in some sense, i used to have the same mentality that all of you are going to tell me about how a shop is shady, but once i actually worked in a shop, i began to understood that its always going to be called shady, or assholes or something. i have seen the shops with the greatest reputation get screwed over , because a company they ordered something from sent them faulty equipment.... so is that to blame on the shop also? then heard nothing but bad shit from third party people how the shop screwed over the customer and what not....

i may be wrong complelty in this case they may have totally fucked you. but some of the things that happened are only to be blamed on you...

and when it comes to a shop you cant expect hook ups all the time, like free tows, and free timing belts and shit... a shop has bills to pay, just like everyone else, if hook ups were given all the time, the shop wouldnt be able to stay in business....

just my opinion....

sorry to hear about your luck.

Grab a haynes manual, laptop with Honda-tech pulled up and learn how to do your own stuff.

I'm glad, I have the ability to do my own work, for anything and everything. I work for a shop, so I know how much stuff would cost and how long it'd take. It sucks, but it's life.

I never had any good experiences with them either.

You got charged up front because the first time you brought your piece of shit car to us, You hounded us to get it done, When it was completed , you had some bs sob story about how you had been mugged while you were on vacation in florida. It took you almost a month to get it paid for 5 or 10$ at a time. Thinking back on that, I should have slapped a mechanics lien on the pos and sold it out from under you, But, like i do with most of my customers,I let it slide because i felt sorry for your broke ass....

Forward to now.. You called me,I towed your car in and quoted you the same as i would have quoted anyone 250 labor plus parts and towing. You then stated that you needed the car back asap so you could go on "vacation" But you wouldn't be able to pay for it until the 15th. So I guess you expected me to fix your car and then just bill you for it.

Sorry but, I don't work for free and I don't run a payday advance company.

Nobody stole anything out of your car. Those are the same parts you described to me that went missing when your car was in the navy parking lot 3 months ago.

The 15$ that you called tax if you remember correctly that was the last little bit of your bill and it was all that you could fit on your navy fed check card.

As far as being greedy, Thats a new one for me.. I do service for 10 different dealers and about 1000 regular customers. So, your 250 doesn't really mean shit to me. Although my employees did enjoy the steak dinner and drinks that it paid for.

Bad business ! I've been in this business and on this board for 6 years. and to date there have been maybe 2 or 3 bad reviews about our shop, usually from broke ass douche bags like you.
