Default Question for Sheriff Deputies

I was thinking about applying for the Portsmouth Sheriffs Department and it says on the list of automatic disqualifiers "Conviction of Any Felony"

Does this include a Reckless Driving ticket I got back in 2004 or some trouble I got into when I was 16??

Thanks for your help.

If either is a felony, yes. If its not a felony, no.

Reckless Driving shouldnt be a felony. Whatever other trouble you got into might be a felony if its a felony.

I'm thinking maybe you shouldnt be a cop. I mean, they train you, but you should at least know what a felony is.

Reckless driving is considered a minor traffic offense.... I didn't have to report it on my military application.

Elaborate on the "trouble when I was 16" because I had some felonious mischief that was wavered by them partly because I was NOT convicted.

No its not, and yes you do. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor in Virginia, it kept me out of the Air Force.

Depending on which branch. If Navy then you werent exactly honest with your recruiter.... Or it was the end of the month, and he was on a doughnut. Luckily you got away with it.

In your case, it's not a felony, but it's definitely a ding against your record and one that may weigh against you while you're in the "pool of candidates". G'luck. They're pretty picky about who they hire... believe me--I know.

yeah, having been charged with with reckless 5 times and evading once killed my chances, doesnt matter one reckless and the evading were dismissed, and one reckless was from when i was under 18 and not on my record.

unless you were tried and convicted as an adult than it is not a felony but a misdeamenor. Reckless Driving is a misdeamenor.
