Nuff Bo-Janglin'... I'm getting to work!
Okay, so I was on fall break from this past Friday up until around 4pm yesterday when I arrived back down here at ODU. I decided that it was about time to start prepping everything, since I've been bo-janglin' long enough!
This was my make-shift work bench made out of 2 saw horses and 2 2x8's on top:

As I continued with the dissassembly, I soon started running out of room!

I intend on being able to assemble this block once I have everything sitting in front of me, so I labeled everything clearly... or kind of clearly...

This is the one aspect that I was puzzled about. Keep in mind, before I purchased this engine, I drove the car around the block and observed no smoking issues or temp issues, or even funny smells. But this is what I found when I removed my waterpump...

A closer view:

From what it looks like, I think the previous owner, or the owner before him tried to widen the coolant port, but accidentally swiped the outside of the sleeve. That, or an old waterpump disintegrated into the engine...
Still, I dont think it's any permanent damage... Does anyone know of a reputable machine shop in the 703 that wouldn't mind taking a look? Also, what are some prices on honing and cleaning a block?

What exactly is the little shield thing in the center of this picture. What is it's purpose?

CNC Machine Shop in Manassas could probably take a look at it for you, and tell you what's going on with the Water Pump Port thing. If not them, then Kenson Automotive in Fairfax. If you bring it down to the 757, I'd recommend Abacus.
What exactly are you talking about in the last pic? The peice bolted down on top of the oil port right above the crank bearing?

It'll be fine. The little u planing on building the motor for,F/I or All motor?
Oh yeah the lilttle shield thing just help keeps oil towards your main griddle and crank. Helps with lub, cooling, and etc.<oil baffles (every motor is differently designed)
As your working on your motor, you should always have every thing covered or bagged, even if your goin to clean every thing over again
