My aftermarket radiator sits really low on my car and my thermostat is sticking and not opening. I have been told it’s because the radiator is too low. And I need to move the radiator up a little bit more so it’s higher then the bleed on the block. This person that told me is really good with cars. However I would like to see if anyone else has heard of this. If so let me know. Im going to get it lifted up regardless but has anyone heard of this?

 

Never heard of that bro, I wouldnt think that would matter. Your water pump is what pressurizes the coolant system so it doesnt really matter whether the radiator sits higher or lower than the block.

 

yeah i wouldnt think it would matter eiter, i am going to relocate the radiator to a higher spot and see what happens, what can i loose.

 

the coolant system is under pressure no matter where the rad is.......pressure is pressure

 

what else would make a thermostat stick. its brandnew. and the radiator is new along with the hoses. the radiator sits real low and the fill cap is underneath the bleed valve on the block. when it starts to get hot i floor it and the second the turbo kicks in somehow the thermostat opens and you can see the temp gauge go down..I have to open the bleed valve just to put coolent in it. anyone have any different ideas?

 

did you change anything else when you changed the rad and hoses?

 

nope when i got the new one i put in a new radiator, thermostat, hoses, fan, fan switch. and i think that just about covers everyting.. i am clueless to what is causing it to stick.. Shad told me it was because the radiator is too low. When ever i am just letting the car sit it dont over heat at all. but when i drive it on the highway it overheats. I am so confused. I think i am going to take shads advice and see what happens.

does that relay the water temp to the gauge inside the car?, i just need to take it to the shop.
