I'm pretty sure having a lawyer won't help. If I was a judge, I would give the guys who have lawyers the max punishment. The mentality is they think they can pay money to get out of it a little more. I would suggest being honest and stop drinking, and tell the lawyer that you havn't drank from the time you got the DUI to the date of the court.

Knowing the system here. You will probably get off with a smack on the hand and pay a HUGE FEE (somewhere along the lines of $4-5000 if you can't pay it then you'll do time). Then you'll get out DUI again and this time kill someone.

I'm not a hypocrite, I used to drink, and I did get pulled over one night for my exhaust, and the cop suspected that I was DUI because of my buddies passed out in the car drunk. (It did smell like a bar) I passed the field sobriety, and breathalizer (luckily I only drank 2-3 beers and it was around 11pm I got pulled over around 230am). That night I stopped drinking and smoking (I drank probably 2-3 times in 5yrs a couple drinks now and I haven't smoked at all). I'm just glad that I didn't kill anyone or myself for that fact.

I looked up the fines just to see what I would get if I had gotten put in jail that night. On top of your lawyer fees look to spend around 20-25k total for $100 worth of alcohol maybe less?

Cliffs:
If you have 20-25k you'll get a slap on the hand. If not then prepare for 30days minimum and a 1 yr suspension of license (to and from work might be possible) and increase in insurance.

i havent heard that much from anyone yet. i think the 20-25k you are talking about is all the costs in future, like insurance, credit, stuff like that. not the actual fine. especially not first offense with no criminal history
