A wise man once said... the only dumb question is the one you never ask.

Nope, you don't have to be a NASA member to do an Autocross or Circuitcross. Although nonmembers pay an extra 10 bucks as per insurance & sanctioning rules.

So for Jan 18 @ VMP... member pre-reg is $30, nonmember pre-reg is $40, member on-site reg is $35, nonmember on-site reg is $45. As explained here:

Yeah I need to do my membership but do NASA-X and Circuitcross count towards anything?

Autocrosses and Circuitcrosses count toward the regional NASA-X points championship if you are a member. They will also definitely help make you a better driver when HPDE time comes (or in between HPDE's.) That is, people who go into HPDE's with autocross or Circuitcross experience will usually be better prepared - and probably better drivers from the start. This, in turn, can only help a person climb the NASA ladder more quickly. And they're great for keeping skills sharp in the meantime (as is karting, for that matter.)

Although they are fairly different disciplines with somewhat different driving styles involved, they are definitely related - and anybody who's been around will tell you that "all seat time is good seat time"
