Default cam suggestions for 383 stroker.

i got a nickel block 350 i'm buildin into a 383 stroker. been lookin at a lunati cams but just askin to see if anyone has any suggestions. still tryin to drive it everyday so i don't want too big of a cam. i was lookin at a lunati roller series camshaft with a .555/.555 gross lift and an adv. duration of 290/290. been lookin on jegs and haven't seen to many cams that would give me good gas mileage. hydraulic roller lifters need a plate to fit into this motor since it's a 74. any suggestions lemme know. i'ma be puttin pics up once i start gettin parts right now just gettin the block ready to be built.

+1 on that being a LOT of cam for the street.

What kind of heads will you be using?

I'm also looking to rollerize a non-roller block. What have you found for the conversion lifters? I can't find any less than $500ish for a set.

I am with the rest of the group in saying that the cam you mentioned is not a good choice for a daily driver. Also, the only solid or hydraulic roller lifters that will work in your block must have the tie-bar. $500 and up for those.

You may consider trading your block for a 1988 and up casting that has provisions for the factory hydraulic roller lifters. You can build a hydraulic roller motor on way less money this way. The 88 and up block has a factory thrust plate, lifter retainers, and the spider in the lifter valley. You have to use a factory style cam with a step on the nose for the thrust plate too.

This is the only way I know to build a budget hydraulic roller motor. Otherwise, you're looking at the tie-bar style lifters and nobody is giving these away.

As far as hydraulic roller cam goes, you should look at something like 218/228 degrees at 0.050 with 0.492-inch lift for both intake and exhaust.

If you stick with the '74 casting, go the Edelbrock route as mentioned above. Keep it simple.

What kind of heads will you be using?
What he said.

i'ma build a 300 horse head. it's not goin to be too much a daily driver. mainly weekends and at the track. i'ma be takin it to ocean city md for the car show they do up there. as far as a daily driver i'ma use my lil car. a lotta people been talkin shit to me cuz of the car but i never tell em i'ma have the truck. i'ma run 3.73 gears for he back. the motor was built at one point and had roller rockers on it. but was taken apart a lil bit ago. rite now i'm just gettin the block ready.
