Considering an R6
Do you have any dirt experience or anything else? Is the bike pretty much just for fun/around the town riding?
I sold my SV in a week and just by advertising on a single message board, so I dunno about that one. Ninja 250's sell pretty quick too.
I think an SV is a great idea, I don't think I would ever "outgrow" an SV650, it has as much power as you could use on the street, and has a huge aftermarket. A much better street bike than any supersport imo. Only downside is you can't go park your SV out in front of the local Hooters with all the other BikerBoiZ, but then I'd rather be RIDING... lol.

ok... let me rephrase. An SV and a 250 dont hold their value as well as most sport bikes. You see a 17 year old SV selling for almost $2000? I dont really see it. Maybe I am wrong, either way... any of them would be a good beginner bike as far as power and reliability.
I sold my SV for $1400 less that I bought it showroom new for, and it was 5 years old, but I took immaculate care of it.
Possibly, but buying a bike to hold value shouldn't even be in the mix, it's not an investment. All bikes lose value fast. I personally would never shell out 2k for a 17 year old bike, unless it was in pristine shape, but thats just me.

did a quick search for SV's on craigslist and most are asking $3000 - $4500 which is about a 50% value drop in 4 years. Thats pretty significant. Looks like most other bikes only have about a 15% - 20% value drop.
Dont they run about $7000-$8000 new? Well... $3500 which would be about the middle between $3000- $4500 is half of $7000. Like stated... its ABOUT a 50% drop. Everybody didn't get together and decide to all sell their bikes for the same price. We kinda got off on the "whats it sell for thing". That was not really my intentions. It was more the "whats it cost thing". An older bike looks decent and costs about a 1/4th less. Does not have the same power. Its better to learn on... parts are cheaper... and you wont care as much when you drop it your first time. When somebody is looking at a 10 -15 year old bike.. they expect it to have been dropped in that time. When you are looking at a 3 year old bike... You expect it not to have been dropped and well maintained. So when getting rid of the bike.. if you dropped an older bike it really wouldn't matter. If you dropped a new SV or 250... you aren't gonna get squat for it. Nobody is gonna pay the same price for a bike that has been dropped as they would a bike that hasn't. So you will have to sell it for less. I am merely stating which I think would be a better choice for a beginner bike and easier to move up from when it has served its purpose. Like my opinion or dont... I dont care. I know the route that I took and I learned about bikes... learned to ride... and made money from my sale. To me I made a good choice.
