There's nothing special needed to show up and take photos/videos. Spectating is free. If you are going to go out on course, you will need a spotter.

I've never done an autox but I've wanted to try. My only concern is remembering where to go. How hard is it?

Not to bad. You get to walk to course before hand to get familiar with it, and if you still are not confident with the course lay out they will have people that can ride with you to show the correct way around.
