Default Street legal allmotor class added to IFO @ Capitol Raceway July 12th

This ia a KICK ASS opportunity to get out in your street car and go some rounds. In the past there has been little to no room for us street car guys to compete. If the turnout is good, I imagine this would be considered for future events. If it is a flop, ALOT of people will look stupid for suggesting that there should be a class geared more towards REAL street cars. If you or any of your buddies have a decently quick all motor street car, BRING IT OUT. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A CLASS DOMINATED BY 10 SECOND CARS!!! i imagine you'll see anything from high 11/low 12 to mid/high 13s and 14s in this class. REGARDLESS, come out and run your car... making this a full field would be awesome. should be alot of fun

Details as follows.

Taken from another post on another board:

Quote:

This class has been added in addition to IFO's regular allmotor event which i know will have at least a 4 car field already.

This new street legal allmotor class is designed for those guys who drive their allmotor cars on the street and would love to come out and race but dont feel they can compete in the regular sportsman/pro style allmotor class.

Entry fee for this class is $30

100% of the entry fees from this class will be awarded to the winners depending on qualifying fields as follows:

4 car field- 1st place $80 2nd place $40
8 car field- 1st place $100 2nd place $75 semis (3rd/4th place) $30
16 car field- 1st place $250 2nd place $130 semis 3rd/4th place) $65

The 1st place payouts could increase!!!

For example if there are 6 cars, we will obviously only have a 4 car elimination ladder. So the entry fee's from the other 2 cars will be added to the 1st place winners payout

The class rules are as follows:

current tags and registration required
pump gas required (no e85)
full interior required (back seats may be removed)
full exhaust required
FWD/RWD ok
4 or 6 cylinder ok
slicks ok
NO fiberglass doors
NO lexan
NO fuel cells
NO turbo, supercharger or nitrous

These are very simple rules which any street driven car should be able to comply with.

I hope to have at least an 8 car field for this class and I dont see any reason why we cant

So spread the word, let everyone know! We only have 2 weeks until the race

E85 is available at the pump locally. That is bullshit to not allow it calling it "not a pump gas". It obviously doesn't affect me since I am not running nor would I be in that class, but to say "pump gas only" is not true when it is a publically available street legal fuel available locally all over Md at the pump.

Tim Grey runs E85 in his "street car" hatch... it runs 10.5Xs. E85 allows you to do some pretty wild things with boost/compression and built motors as i'm sure you know. The idea is to keep cars like that out and allow for some younger guys or guys who dont have huge budgets to come out and race

That's cool and all, I believe I made this suggestion in the past. I think that is part of what is killing the racing scene, since people don't want to race if they dont' run 9s, since they have no chance otherwise. If they don't want to allow E85 that's cool just don't say "pump gas only" say, 10% max ethanol content or something.

I like the idea of trying to make a class for the more mildly built every day cars, but I think it'd be better as a turbo class. Say DOT tires only, have minimum weights that actually make sense based on the platform, and a max turbo size of 54 or 58mm or something like that.

Fuck it, do both classes. I think there's a LOT of cars that would fall into the low 11.0- low 12s area who would love to be able to race against similar street cars but are discouraged from competing because they have no chance in the classes that they'd normally fall into, due to people with huge turbos on tin cans that barely bend their way through the rules and can't make it home without a trailor.

an all motor class is just gonna end up being a bunch of honda turds. There are a LOT of evos, 240SX, WRX, etc, that are so fucked by the rules of the other classes that it's useless for them to compete without a more street car friendly class available.

/\ isn't that sorta saying the same thing fuel wise???

And I TOTALLY agree with you about having a more street based turbo class as well with a turbo restriction that is actually a RESTRICTION. What comes to mind is the typical "t3/t4" honda cars from back in the day, or 18 or 20g DSM guys (just thinking of cars that used to be the faster cars back in the day that have more or less fallen behind now that guys are throwing down fucking 8 second passes at 170mph in "street cars" nowadays... 350-400hp turbo car class would be incredible to watch and i THINK would have a great following. Get enough people behind you and it can happen. Seems they are listening a bit to people talking on the forums lately (case in point). Turnouts have been piss poor at best so i think they are trying things out to get more racers involved, even if its not high dollar dedicated race teams and i think its great.

Rather than looking at this as a "we DIDNT get this" look at it in a positive light that they have allowed for something new to take place and this could mean good things for guys like myself and yourself in the future who dont race full time and dont have shop sponsorship...

Well E85 is a legit pump gas, so if you want to not allow it you'd have to word it differently, that is all I'm saying.

and yeah, I think a turbo class like I described would be an awesome field and it'd bring a lot of people out who don't normally have a fair class to run in. Hell if it works out maybe have two levels. I think the event organizers might be surprised at how well a class like that would work. Back in the day when the classes were slower all around there were a lot more people racing because it was a lot easier to compete. A lot of people lose interest when they fall 2 seconds behind and aren't willing to sacrifice everything from their street car to keep up. I was thinking any DOT tire, 2800 min weight for AWD & RWD, 2500 for FWD, 1 power adder only, max turbo size 58mm or something like that. Allow E85 but with a weight or turbo size penalty maybe.

You just want them to word it differently? I agree E85 is a pump gas. it could be argued that 110 can also be had "at the pump"... Whether they say maximum ethonol content 10% or no E85 I feel like it's basically saying the same thing. Petrol, max octane 93? Ehhh minor details and we know what they mean by it.

Other than that, I couldnt agree with you more.

difference with 110 is you can't legally pump it into a gas tank. If it is at the pump you are required by law to pump it into a container that is not a car's gas tank. What you do after that of course doesn't matter.

Keepin this up near the top. It's a sad day when a class has been created for guys like us and no interest at all is shown. Over the weekend there was a battle of the imports in Texas and people are saying the turnout was the wortse they have ever seen. You can bet that if this doesn't turn around and turnouts improve there won't be import drag racing series for much longer.

im not gonna lie. If they let 6cyld in with DOT tires and maybe "stock" turbos id love it... helll that low 12 high 11 sec is where id sit so id deff have a chance. lol... but seem's because my car says "twin turbo" I always have no choice but to run the fucken 8 sec hondas and 8 sec other built/turbo cars. Hate it... hince I never go to race events to race. I think its a GREAT idea to have a all motor street car class. I think its a really good idea. They should also do a turbo dot tire class as well. Id try my hand at it even though I know there is 10 sec dot tire hondas and dsm's ect.
