well, like i mentioned, i need ANY position in the field really. I need to just get my foot in the door, and something that I could later put on a resume as an accomplishment.

everything i find online is requiring at LEAST 3 years of seat time...that, along with no official credentials yet, are my only drawback. I can pass the test, but I can't actively get expirence.

Call these guys http://www.insightglobal.net/

They usually have tons of IT positions available even with the economy being the way that it is. Just keep in mind starting out, your not going to get paid the big bucks and the first position or two you may get a kind of crappy job.

I have 3 years in the IT field and economy is kicking us in the behind right now. But you might have a better chance then me cause my background isn't that clean compared to yours.

But if you really want to get your foot in the door check out YEARUP.ORG. I enrolled in that program and i was offered three different positions but cause of my background check, my application had been denied. On the other hand I have referred three of my friends to the program and they now have full time IT jobs with a starting salary of 35k and up.

YEARUP is an one year long program that they pay you and you receive 18 college credits. The first six months will be a piece of cake for you because it is all in class training of the ins and outs of computers. The next six months is an apprentice position that will offer you real life work experience and about 75% of the time the company will keep you on board as a full time employee.

Trust me, this is an excellent program.

Have you used Dice.com? That's how I find all my tech related jobs. Contact a temp staffing firm also... can get you in the door with IT related stuff at least to build some experience. Pay isnt bad either (14-19/hr)

no, the only thing that i have been using is Monster.com...and searching in areas for jobs.

i have had expirence with a staffing/temp agency one before, it wasnt good at least in my case. but i am open to trying it once more.

again, i fully plan on moving away from my hometown, and wanting to be in the NOVA area, so i don't know of many local agencies in the area.

Disregard the senior positions... as for any that require a clearance.. if its not TS.. they will still hire as long as you'll pass.

35k in NOVA? I'm being serious here... people can live off of 35k in NOVA? I thought NOVA was super expensive.

In all honesty, you'll be lucky to get a help desk position with no certifications and no degrees. You may want to obtain the certifications first. A+ doesn't really buy you much. Get the comptia network+ you've mentioned. With the knowledge of that, you can probably get something internship based or entry-level... then go in there and show them you're a bad ass.

yeah, 35k in NOVA, in my understanding, would barely pay for a studio apartment, let alone a car, lifestyle, cell phone etc. 35k in my hometown is a little less than what i was making and i lived like a king lol

i know i need to get on the ball with my certs. i'm on a time line crunch tho. im on unemployment (laid off from my previous job in may) which runs out in september. after that i can apply for a 2 month extension, and after that i'm cut off from everything. it's coming down to the wire, and i REALLY want to land a job SOMEHOW in the field, i dont want to have to apply to menial jobs just to pay the bills if i dont have to.
