Best Car for 10k suggestions?
Yeah, if performance is a key selling point, you may want to go with a 1.8t GLI. However, it's hard to beat 45mpg and motor that virtually bullet-proof...

There are a few within a 300 mile radius with 80k or so on them for 10 and under. Within the next 20k mi I'm sure you can save up for some new turbos if need be. Besides alot of the mods for the BI-turbo replace the turbos anyway.
I don't know for sure if they have the same issues as the S4's though. But, with a S4 you're alreayd gonna be in the 100k mi + range. Not to mention I'm going to assume that most A6's are driven way lighter than S4's are.

Clean, under budget, under 80k mi and looks very well kept!

I'm probably gonna be in the same boat as you in a few months so I'll throw in what I've been looking at, though I don't need a backseat like you. I think most of the cars people have been suggesting are going to cost well more than 10k for ones in decent condition, and of course higher mileage versions that do cost 10k will require a lot more in maintenance. A 540 m sport, B5 S4, and c32 amg are not and never will be 10k cars. maybe a c230 w/sport package and a 6 speed would be fun, not much aftermarket support though. E39 530i with sport package is a great car as well, while it's not blazing fast its a great highway cruiser. 1.8 A4 as someone already suggested, better option than a Jetta GLI as its awd.
I'll throw these out there as well..
F-body..resale value has tanked on these
srt-4 though I'm not a fan...too much power for fwd
contour SVT- i know, i know its a contour...but theyre damn fun to drive around an auto-x course and can be had very cheap and are rare
Subaru legacy
G35 sedan- haven't checked prices lately but they go for less than the coupes and are lighter to boot
